Board of Trustees Meeting
March 17, 2021


The Knoxville Public Library Board of Trustees met at the library at 8:00 AM Wednesday, Mar. 17, 2021. Members present were Bob Leonard, Jean McKay, Harv Sprafka, Scott Ziller, Pat Wilson, and Mary Lane. Lindsey Carlson was absent.

The meeting was called to order by Pat Wilson. Harv Sprafka moved, Mary Lane seconded to approve the minutes of the February 17, 2021 meeting as mailed. Motion passed unanimously.

There was no correspondence for discussion or action.

Roslin reported on statistics for February. Total circulation was 3,244 physical items and 1,017 downloadable items. There were 200 uses of public access computers, 32 AWE computer usage, and 484 wifi access. Total visits was 1,125, which averaged 49 people each day. All programming is still on-line with grab-n-go options available.
There will be a writers’ panel with writers from the book We The Interwoven vol. 3 over Zoom on April 27th at 6 – 7:30 p.m. This is part of a grant from the ALA Libraries Transform Communities grant. Roslin has been on a committee planning the 100th anniversary of the Iowa flag on March 29th. The two weeks preceding that will see activities such as a coloring activity, passport tour to visit local sites, an essay contest, a display, and proclamations by the governor and mayor.
Roslin reported that masks were still required in city buildings and the staff was enforcing the rule. City employees qualified for the COVID-19 vaccinations this week and there was “light at the end of the tunnel.” Programming will likely be in-person in the Fall while library staff was cautiously optimistic while planning for summer programs, offering outdoor options or limited numbers in attendance.
The Board discussed the possibility of getting the Garden Club members or volunteers involved in landscaping around the library building.

Under Media Strategy Plan, the 100th anniversary is the biggest event coming up. Later in April, the Marion County Community Read will be promoted. Copies have been distributed to the other libraries.

Jean McKay moved, Mary Lane seconded that the financial report for February be approved. Motion was unanimous. Bob Leonard moved, Scott Ziller seconded the city trust report for February be accepted. Motion was unanimous. Mary Lane moved, Scott Ziller seconded the approval for payment of bills for March. Motion passed unanimously, and a copy is attached to the minutes.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at 8:00 AM at the Knoxville Public Library.
