Board of Trustees Meeting
February 17, 2021


The Knoxville Public Library Board of Trustees met at the library at 8:00 AM Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2021. Members present were Bob Leonard, Jean McKay, Harv Sprafka, Mary Lane, Pat Wilson, and Lindsay Carlson. Scott Ziller was absent. Heather Ussery, interim City Manager, was present.

The meeting was called to order by Pat Wilson. Lindsay Carlson moved, Mary Lane seconded to approve the minutes of the January 20, 2021 meeting as mailed. Motion passed unanimously.

Under Correspondence, Roslin reported that the library endowment fund with the Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines stands at $63,987.59 as of Dec. 31, 2020.

Roslin gave the monthly report for January. Total circulation was 3,435 physical items and 1,059 downloadable items. Computer usage for the month was 251 with 1,177 recorded uses of the wireless. There were a total number of 1,283 visits to the library. Almost all programming continues to be on-line: book club, DIY, and trivia. 21 of the winter challenge forms were turned in, with 14 prizes given out.
Roslin reported on events in the newsletter. Plans are underway for Dixie Cornell Gebhardt Week from March 28 to April 3, with most activities focused on March 29. The library is looking to hire additional part-time staff to replace those who are leaving or have limited schedules.

At this point, the board discussed possible means of investing in excess capital campaign funds. Heather Ussery said that she would ask the auditors about legal procedures. The matter was tabled to the next month’s meeting.

Under Media Strategy Plan, all events shall be planned and publicized in a timely manner. The latest newsletter will be emailed and distributed through the community. Social media posts garner immediate attention, but the local radio station KNIA/KRLS has also been effective.

Jean McKay moved, Lindsey Carlson seconded that the financial report for January be approved. Motion was unanimous. Bob Leonard moved, Mary Lane seconded the city trust report for January be accepted. Motion was unanimous. Mary Lane moved, Jean McKay seconded the approval for payment of bills for February. Motion passed unanimously, and a copy is attached to the minutes.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned. The next regular meeting will be held
Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at 8:00 AM at the Knoxville Public Library.
