Retired Iowa City schoolteacher Mark Wilson began volunteering as an ambassador at the UI Athletics Hall of Fame when it opened in 2002. Since then, he's helped countless visitors explore exhibits and artifacts spanning more than a century of Hawkeye sports history.
No Hawkeye figure has intrigued Wilson more than Nile Kinnick, whose Heisman Trophy is a centerpiece of the museum. A decade ago, Wilson began work on a passion project: collecting 366 favorite quotes from Kinnick's speeches, letters, and diaries. The result is a new book titled 'The Way of Nile C. Kinnick, Jr.: Insights, Images, and Stories of Iowa's 1939 Heisman Trophy Winner,' A portion of the book's sales will be donated to the six scholarships in Kinnick's name through the UI Center for Advancement.
